Your very kind letter was received last night and it was doubly welcome from its expressions of sympathy and generosity which do not come amiss during the days of such trials and afflictions as we have been passing through I can assure you that the loss of our little darling Gracie is a terrible blow to me for it seems as tho my light had gone out not that I do not love the other little ones, but Gracie was allways the first to meet pa.pa. with a smile and kiss as I came home at noon or night and she allways slept with me and hardly a night would pass it matter not how late I went to bed but
